Isn't he adorable?
At the time of his birth, the world was in Salt Lake City participating in the Olympics. Due to that event, the nurses in the Women's Center at the hospital had posted an urgent message to expecting Moms--or more accurately to the babies they carried: "Skeleton athletes welcome in the delivery rooms, however, Luge athletes will please report to the O.R."
Due to the fact that two weeks before his delivery Isaac flipped in my womb, which put him in position for the Luge, (feet first), we were admitted to the O.R. for a planned C-Section. Though my doctor had been open to the idea of attempting to turn him if I directed, I had been warned in a dream that the outcome of that attempt would not be favorable. Because of the force of that dream, (I awoke in sweat and tears) I was convinced that a C-section was the best way to get this baby here safely. And so we went forward with faith. To the operating room.
Isaac Spencer arrived at 1:22 pm on February 19th, 2002, weighing in at 9 lb. 2 1/2 oz. and measuring 19 inches. Rad-Baby #4 to grace the stage, he would change our lives forever.
His older siblings adored him from day one. He was a charmer with those cute dimples and chubby little cheeks. And Brigham, at 4+ years, couldn't wait to wrestle with his new little brother. (We made sure he knew he'd have to wait until Isaac was big enough to fight back.)Because he came feet first, you could say Isaac hit the ground running, but that would be a tall tale. After all, he did start earth life as a baby and needed time to understand this new body of his and how it worked. Still, it didn't take him long to become mobile. In no time at all that cute little bundle of curiosity became a blur of destruction. Lucky for him he kept his cuteness--that one redeeming quality saved him several times when he was caught in some devious act.
It turned out to be a blessing that he was born via C-section because the doctor let me know later that the umbilical cord was wrapped several times around his neck and an attempt at turning him could have been fatal. I am so grateful for the warning I was given through the Spirit because I can't picture our life without him as a part of it. Even though recovering from a C-section was the pits, his safe arrival was worth every minute of it.
So now we celebrate his birthday.
10 years!
10 years!
I had planned to make a cake roll and fill it with cream.
The picture in the cook book looked beautiful and fun.

Though I followed the directions exactly,
somehow it broke when I unrolled it to put the filling in...
So instead of a beautiful cake roll, the cake was crumbled and turned into a "dirt dessert."
(How's that for resourceful?)

Dirt dessert is more fitting for Isaac anyway, since he LOVES dirt!
It was a hit!
And to top it off, one of Isaac's friends brought a gift with a package of gummy worms attached! So we put one in each cup.
Perfect.
So after a boisterous round of Foosball,
we headed to the pool.
The ride there in the Suburban was most exciting:

Five 9-10 year old boys can make a lot of racket!
And funny faces.
But we made it to the pool.

But we made it to the pool.
And a good time was had by all!
And that is the tail end of our story...
