Exploring the Local Wilderness

The highlight of our summer has been our hiking club.  We started a weekly regimen of hiking local trails to get some fresh air, exercise, and good memories.  We invited other families who would like to join us.  It has become a fun weekly excursion that I look forward to.  We have  enjoyed the local mountains and built some friendships along the way.  

Here are some of the hikes we have enjoyed together:

Logan River Walk -- June 5th

This one was a nice, easy walk in the woods to "get our feet wet."  We intended to hike 2 miles round trip, but ended up hiking about 2.5 miles one way, which was good so we knew we could accomplish a 5-mile hike.

 Our dog, Marble, joined us.  She has to be on a leash when she hikes with us, so we only bring her on the short hikes.  She was a trooper and did her best to be obedient to the leash, which is still new to this puppy.

Bloomington Lake -- June 12th

Gorgeous hike!  Beautiful scenery!

 Crimson Trail (a.k.a. Great Wall of China hike... that's really in Logan Canyon)-- June 19th

 Pictured here are all the troopers who made this arduous journey of 6 miles.  Some of the trail was steep and rocky.  I won't mention who the whiners were... but they made it all the way too.  (they just didn't enjoy the journey as well.)

 The youngest proved to be steady and determined hikers.

 Obviously, we had to walk carefully at the top as there were 200 foot cliffs.  But the views were beautiful.  Below the cliff you can see the highway in Logan Canyon.

 Hike to the Spring up High Creek Canyon -- June 26th

This was a fun hike.  I had forgotten how long the road was to get to the trail head, but we made it.  And though we had planned on taking another trail, we felt the mistake was a serendipity.  About 3 miles up on the left fork of the South trail is a beautiful water fall with a spring at the top.

 We scrambled to the top of the water fall and found the source of the spring.  It literally looked like it came bubbling right out of the rock.  Cool!
  

Because Isaac prefers bare feet, his shoes end up being carried down the trail.

This time he invented a shoe carrier.  We get a kick out of his creative ways.

White Pine Lake -- July 3rd

This hike was one of my favorites!  The views at Tony Grove Lake are gorgeous to begin with and then the trail through the wildflowers and alpine forests was delightful.

Amber and Brigham brought unicycles and enjoyed riding them down the path.  Trail riding is challenging, but they were determined.

We anticipate many more fun hikes before the summer is over.
