Happy New Year!

The sun is shining here and the mercury is pushing just past 20 degrees Fahrenheit. That's pretty warm, considering we did reach -16 here this November. It is just warm enough to enjoy being outside, and just cold enough to make our cheeks and noses pink. Today's outdoor adventures include sledding.

Since we live in a flat, open field, our sledding adventures include a tractor or 3-wheeler. Except for the occasional inhalation of exhaust, it is enjoyable and makes for a great outdoor activity. Because we don't have snow-machines, we have made a trail to follow around the field so that these vehicles don't get stuck. This year we added a different touch to the track: a couch for the waiting line. (It was going to the dump anyway because D.I. wouldn't take it.) There is an idea in the works of attaching skis to the couch and turning it INTO the sled! Who thinks that is a good idea?

Our new plastic sled met its demise... maybe the speed was too much for it? We haven't had long-lasting results with plastic sleds. The sled made of steel pictured here came from Uncle Scott and has endured many years of this kind of torture. Our daredevil pictured in the back tried standing on the back of the sled, though at one point he ended up hanging onto the back of the sled while sliding on his tummy today. Apparently he thought it was fun because he didn't let go and he laughed when we stopped and tried it again. What a hoot!
