The Dirty Dash

All winter, David and his siblings have been planning to participate in the "Dirty Dash," held at Soldier Hollow June 4, 2011. Two weeks ago, another participant in their group had to drop out and offered Brigham his spot. So for the past week and a half, the two of them have been in "training" for this 5K through the mud. They must have trained pretty well because they finished the race!
From where I sat on the bleachers, I could see about half of the race course.
David filled me in on the rest of the obstacles along the course. They began by charging up a hill covered in mud: Then they climbed over hay bales, went down to a gorge that had muddy-water-filled pipes they crawled through, then they ran/walked around the hollow to a mud pit with 4 walls they climbed over. Then they ran/walked/stumbled through some tires, then on to a stream crossing in a "hole," slid down a steep hill of dirt, then on to Deer Creek Reservoir where they wallowed through some stinky, swampy lake mud. After that, they ran around the pavilion and on back to the hollow where they rolled/crawled under a net on dry dirt, then up the hill to the bouncy slide. After sliding/leaping/bouncing down the slide, they ran/walked down the hill to the final obstacle, a giant mud puddle.

My favorite scene was at the end when they were served refreshments: it reminded me of a pig sty! Check out the muddy fence, the "slop" table, and the "piggies" wallowing in the mud:Yum! Free snow cones!

And Rachel was soooo patient to sit on the bleachers with me while I took pictures of the race.
